Spring, Texas – October 29, 2018: At approximately 2:40AM the Harris County Sheriff’s Department began receiving 911 calls for a wrong way driver traveling Southbound in the Northbound lanes of I-45 near the Hardy Toll Road. No less than a minute later, additional calls were received reporting a major accident had just occurred near I-45 and Spring Stuebner.
Emergency crews arrived on the scene to find a gray Ford Mustang with catastrophic damage that had collided with an 18-wheeler. The driver of the mustang, a Hispanic male, was pronounced dead after no signs of life were found. The driver and passenger of the 18-wheeler were released with no injuries.
During the accident investigation, a second crash occurred at approximately 4:45AM.
According to police, the woman driving the vehicle in the second crash was suspected of DWI. She was taken into custody and booked in the Harris County Jail.
I-45 Northbound was closed for nearly 5 hours but has since reopened.
This crash is under investigation by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division.
