Three Horses Dead, Driver Critical After Overnight DWI Crash

Tomball, Texas – Three horses were killed after a driver that had allegedly been drinking crashed his truck and trailer into a light pole along State Highway 249.

Around 10:30 PM, emergency responders from numerous agencies responded to the intersection of SH 249 and the Grand Parkway, Thursday evening.

Accident investigators say that the driver, who was traveling at a high rate of speed failed to maintain a single lane and crashed his vehicle into a light pole near the intersection.

Three fully grown horses that were in a trailer pulled by the pickup truck were killed on impact. The driver was life-flighted in critical condition with life threatening injuries after being cut out of the truck by firefighters.

Harris County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Cheng tells us that when deputies arrived at the hospital, the driver displayed signs of impairment. A glass alcoholic container was also found in the vehicle.

Investigators say that if the driver survives, they plan to file animal cruelty charges.
