Spring, Texas – July 6th, 2017: Kuykendahl Road at Spring Creek now features a double bridge in each direction that will help alleviate traffic for motorists traveling between Harris and Montgomery counties.

Construction on the southbound bridge along Kuykendahl from Pine Plains Drive to Flintridge Drive began last year, and all lanes opened July 6. The new bridge doubles traffic capacity along the corridor, which previously featured a two-lane bridge.

Harris and Montgomery counties worked together to fund the $7.05 million bridge. The Woodlands Road Utility District No. 1 funded the design phase services and managed the project during construction.

The project is a continuation of last year’s road expansion project along Kuykendahl Road between Indian Hill Road and Timarron Drive. The $1.2 million roadway expansion project, funded through the METRO General Mobility Program and bond funds voters approved in 2015, included widening the segment from two to four lanes and opening an extra lane in each direction.

[blockquote style=”3″]”Now motorists traveling along one of the area’s busiest corridors can find some relief. The region has grown tremendously since Kuykendahl Road was built. I’m proud so many agencies could come together to fund this necessary expansion,” said Commissioner R. Jack Cagle. [/blockquote]

The Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) division administers and manages Precinct 4’s capital improvements program from road expansion projects, traffic signals, and intersection improvements to traffic management systems designed to improve mobility and air quality. Bernie’s Backyard Food Truck Park Closes It’s Doors

Spring, Texas – September 16th, 2017: After just two years in business, Bernie’s Backyard has officially closed their doors. The announcement came as a surprise to many when a for lease sign was placed on the property and an announcement was posted to their Facebook page.

“Bernie’s Backyard is suspending operations until further notice. The hurricane has affected our infrastructure. We appreciate all of you who have supported us. We will be closed until further notice. Thank you all!”

Although Bernie’s Backyard didn’t directly state they were closing their doors on Facebook, their staff confirmed with Spring Happenings via a direct message that they have closed the facility.

We stopped by to assess the damage to their “infrastructure” but found several perfectly standing buildings with not apparent damage to the exterior and an empty parking lot where the food trucks once parked.

Doug Powell posted a review to Google just four weeks ago saying “Bernie needs to get his act together. Friday @ 1pm and only 2 out of 5 trucks are open? And $6.50 for a draft beer??”

Bernie’s Backyard would not comment on specifics of their closing but did tell us that the property is for lease at a rate of $15,000.00 per month.
