Fireworks Safety Urged this July 4th Weekend

Spring, Texas – July 3rd, 2015 (Harris County Fire Marshalls Office): Fireworks sales season began on June 24th and the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office is asking everyone to be careful with their use of fireworks this season. Even though the Greater Houston/Harris County area has received recent substantial rainfall, there is always the potential for fireworks-related fires. Any carelessly used firework can start a fire or cause injury.

Harris County Fire Marshal Mike Montgomery said the July 4th holiday season will be safer if people:

  • Read and follow fireworks directions and warning labels
  • Never allow children to play with or ignite fireworks
  • Only light one firework at a time – well away from buildings, homes or vehicles
  • Are considerate of neighbors when it comes to noise and trash left behind.

“I still want to urge caution and check local regulations regarding use of fireworks,” said Montgomery. “The Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office will be inspecting fireworks stands for sales violations and will have additional staff to monitor fireworks activities for illegal or dangerous fireworks during the July 4th weekend.”
