Harris County, Texas – January 19th, 2016 (Cypress Creek EMS News): Cypress Creek EMS Paramedic Lynne Singleton and her husband, Fire Investigator, James Singleton have been presented with the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office (HCFMO) Lifesaving Award. The presentation took place in front of colleagues and family on January 19, 2016 at Cypress Creek EMS. The award was presented by Harris County Fire Marshal Mike Montgomery. Their quick action saved the life of a kayaker in distress.
Here’s what happened as detailed in the Fire Marshal’s Official Citation. On July 21, 2015, James Singleton and Lynne Singleton were enjoying a family day on Towne Lake in northwest Harris County. James Singleton observed a person in distress in their kayak that was taking on water; a significant distance from the shore. James and Lynne took their boat towards the distressed person to offer assistance. As they approached, the kayaker was forced to abandon his kayak. Lynne jumped into the water immediately and helped the man stay afloat while James maneuvered their boat to retrieve them. After pulling the man from the water, James and Lynne brought him to the shore while assessing the health of the kayaker. Due to the heroic actions performed by Investigator Singleton and his wife and their commitment to life-safety, the distressed kayaker suffered no long term effects.
